To help my learners identify and talk about their emotions, I often use simple check-ins at the start of lessons, asking them to describe how they feel using words, colours, or even drawings. This makes it easier for them to express emotions in a safe and non-judgmental way.
I usually find out about their social and emotional needs through observation, informal conversations, and short reflective activities where they share what is going well and what challenges they face. These insights help me adjust my teaching and provide support where needed.
Activities I have used include group discussions, role-play scenarios, and “exit slips” where learners write one thing they enjoyed and one challenge they faced. These activities encourage self-awareness and empathy while giving me valuable feedback.
