Discussion about offering the counselling

I believe basic counseling is a necessary part of a teacher’s role, especially in migrant and conflict settings where specialists are rare. We are often the first point of contact in the student's Microsystem. However, for deep trauma, a specialist is still needed to ensure professional care.

There are risks, such as secondary trauma for the teacher or giving incorrect advice without full training. Without clear boundaries, a teacher can become overwhelmed.

While my school provides informal support through friendly discussion, we need more formal training in active listening and rapport building. To improve, we need a clear referral system and workshops on managing emotional outbursts effectively.
