Key principles of a supportive learning environment

Yes, the principles of a supportive learning environment can apply in all contexts, even in conflict or displacement. They help learners feel safe, respected, and connected which is important everywhere. The main things is counsellors or teachers need to keep privacy after the discussion or counselling. Some of the students might feel shy and might not speak up well so counsellors or teachers need to ask them and encourage them to speak frankly and give them the accurate and honest counselling.

In practice, challenges can happen, like limited resources, stress, or students feeling unsafe. As a teacher or volunteer, I will try to address these by keeping lessons simple, showing empathy, and building trust step by step. Even small actions, like listening or group activities, can make a big difference.
