Counselling in education setting

I would say it is both but at different levels. I believe that offering basic emotion support is role of the teacher. This is include

  • Listening to students
  • Showing empathy and care
  • Creating a safe and supportive classroom environment
  • Noticing when a student is struggling

However, serious issues should be referred to specialists. Professional counselling, such as therapy or dealing with trauma and mental well-being, should be handled by trained counsellors or psychologists. Therefore, I believe specialists can handle these situations better. Additionally, if both teachers and specialists work together to provide counselling support, better outcomes for students can be achieved. Currently, in my school, we have a counsellor, and teachers provide basic emotional support.
