The activity that I would like to do to create a safe and emotionally supportive classroom environment is a short “Circle Time Check-In.” I will so this activity at the beginning of the school day or at the start of a new term. students need to sit together in a circle and each person shares one word or a short sentence about how they are feeling, something they are grateful for, or a hope they have for the day. I will start asking them a prompt such as Good morning or Hello students, Could you tell me “One word to describe how you feel right now” or “Something you are grateful for today” or “One hope you have for today’s class.” I will ask who would like to volunteer to answer the question first. If no, I will arrange them base on their first name alphabet or birth month or height. Students may also choose to pass if they do not want to share, which respects their comfort level. But, I will try to encourage them and create a way like Are you feeling excited or Are you feeling happy? so they can answer it. This activity will helps students learn by encouraging them to express emotions, listen to others, and build empathy, which strengthens their sense of belonging and reduces anxiety. It also sets a positive tone that motivates them to engage in lessons. For the teacher, the check-in quickly shows how the class is feeling, which makes it easier to change lessons if needed, stop problems before they start, and build trust with students. Because it is a regular routine, it helps students calm down, pay attention, and get ready to learn. It also gives the teacher an easy way to keep the classroom organized and running smoothly. In this way, the activity supports both emotional well-being and effective learning.
Peer review
The activity is very constructive and can be done both inside and outside the classroom. Moreover, it is good for improving communication, and it also creates a safe learning environment by giving students the option not to share if they do not feel comfortable. As the author mentions, the activity supports both emotional well-being and effective learning.
