Learning from the course

This week really changed how I look at my future classroom. Coming into this training, I thought being a good teacher was mostly about knowing my subject and explaining it clearly. But seeing how teachers in the videos use compassion and respect as actual "teaching tools" was a huge eye-opener.

The Cake Project example really stuck with me. It showed me that integrated learning isn't just a fancy term; it’s about making a lesson move from a textbook into the real world to solve actual community problems. It makes me want to be more than just a source of information. I want to be a stabilizer for my students, especially those dealing with displacement or stress. I’m learning that if I don’t build a sanctuary in my classroom first, the math equations won't even matter because the students won't be in the right headspace to hear them. This training is teaching me that my biggest job is to help students move from feeling like victims of their situation to becoming liberators of their own lives.
