Ecological Systems Theory helps teachers understand that students are not only affected by what happens in the classroom, but also by their family, community, and life outside. Especially in conflict or displacement situations, students may carry stress, fear, or problems from home, and this can affect how they learn and behave.
From my experience, sometimes students are quiet or don’t want to join activities. Before, I might think they are just not interested, but now I try to think deeper like maybe something is happening outside school. Just like in daycare, I always try to understand what the child likes first instead of forcing them.
This theory helps me to be more patient and flexible. For example, instead of pushing students to participate, I can give them different ways to join, like drawing, small group work, or simple activities.
Also, if possible, I think it is important to connect with families to understand students better. Even small understanding can help a lot in how we teach them.
