Metacognition techniques 3
Metacognition techniques 3
Today is again a short day for reading as the theory follows on from day 1.
Some questions based on Schraw's regulatory checklist (Schraw, 2001) may help at different stages of metacognitive thinking:
Planning:
- What is the nature of the task?
- What is my goal?
- What information and strategies do I need?
- How much time and resources do I need?
Monitoring:
- Do I have a clear understanding of what I am doing?
- Does the task make sense?
- Am I reaching my goals?
- Do I need to make changes?
Evaluating:
- Have I reached my goal?
- What worked?
- What didn't work?
- What would I do differently next time?
Practice
Make a note in your journal (or however you are recording your thinking) of Schraw's checklist
When you come across a situation that you need to think about try applying this checklist
