Introductions (discussion)

My name is Naw Junie Eh. I come from the refugee background and have faced many difficulties when it comes to learning and studing. I have both experiences as a student and a teacher because I volunteered as a teacher for one year after I graduated from the High School in the Refugee Camp.

As a learner, I have witnessed challenges in learning at refugee or migrant areas, and experienced the overcroweded classrooms with limited resources for learning. As a teacher, I witnessed that schools in the refugee camps lacked of school materials and there was barely digital tools to use. Most learning were performing through paper based lessons, however even the paper based supplies were insufficient.

The next challenge would be the school curriculum and certificates. The curriculums we had was not fully accredicted as most lessons were taught in our mother language. Moreover, the certificates that we received were not recognized by nationally, a specific country, and internationally.

These reasons brought difficulties for many students, even teachers, to continue their further study or apply for a better occupation. However, I have experienced a better teaching environment with some passionate and resilient students. Nowadays, teaching and learning systems improve a lot when it is compared to the past 5 to 10 years as there are more teacher trainings; moreover more online sessions are available in some refugee areas.
