Teacher role in creating safe place
1. What role can and do teachers play in creating safe spaces through education in these contexts?
I think it might be like teachers should feel like someone who the students can trust with the information that they can share especially with the privacy. If the teachers is someone the students can't trust, then they would likely have to feel worries with the way they act all the time.
Also, the teacher should be someone who isn't bias and not to be so judgemental with the behaviors or the intellectual of the students. This would seriously affect the performances of the students inside the classroom.
Due to my experience when I was in high school back inside the refugee camp, the teachers always favor students who are smart academically and they showed extra care to those students. This create conflict among the students and made the students who aren't very smart to not study and they feel not safe to study inside the classroom.
Overall, the role of the teacher in create safe place through education should be someone who is physically protecting the students, but also to be someone who is supportive in the personal growth of the students, make them feel at ease to study inside the classroom without have to worry to make a mistake, to be someone who can guide the students the interest of the improvement of the students, and be someone who will work their best of the benefits of the students without judging their intellectual capacity.
2. What guidelines (if any) do schools in your communities have for the protection of learners, teachers and school infrastructures?
In Minmahaw School, the teachers have to follow "the code of conduct" and "the rule and regulations" that always help us and remind us not to act out of our role as a teacher. But I am not sure with other schools around us though.
3. What do you think is the best way to advocate for safe schools in such contexts?
Making rules and regulations and following the code of conduct is the very good discipline to follow I think. By enhancing this, we can create the safety environment, both for the students and the teachers. However, the physical location of the school is also important I believe. If we have to study in the place with the constant war, then the students won't ever feel safe to study as well as for the teachers.
4. What more could be done to ensure the safety of schools and their communities?
I am not so sure how to answer this question but for sure all of us have to be dedicated for the students to get the best quality of the education without judging their intellectual quality. Most of the time, the students have to fear to fail the exam which causes anxiety for them and stress them out. However, we have to make sure to them that it is okay to fail and it is okay to try again. And also have to make sure to those students who doesn't try hard and doesn't think education is important to realize the important of the education.
