How can teachers create safe spaces to learn for students?
In the government system, president is the leader of the country. Likewise, in education part, teachers are the main characters who are vital for student to be able to learn safely no matter what happens.
Teachers have to lead students to create sustainable ways to safely teach and educate them through education.
But, some of students are being displaced by their countries as the reason of political instabilities or civil war. As teachers, they should not ignore that circumstances and should perform to create a learning hub for them.
To set up this, they need supports such as building and facilities, and teachers have to advocate for them to get supports from other non-profit organization because everyone deserve to learn.
I have studied in migrant school for 3 years and was familiar with their vision and mission. Besides, I understood their goals set up rules and policies for students to give protection.
To provide a clear example, no students must do sexual harassment, no students must use drugs, and no students must harm the other students or teacher with disrespected ways. Every students must follow the rules and be obey what teachers say.
If someone breaks the rule, they will consider that student and warn his or her not to do it again. If so many warning often happens, they will give students give off from school for others student to be given protection.
Instead, school is responsible to secure not only in offline but also cyber security in modern era. Besides, school needs to systematically build infrastructure for long term learning.
To smoothly create the long-term path for learning, teachers in school should collaborate with other staff members to find the best solution and seek collaboration with donors for support.
For example, teachers should advocate the needs, difficulties, and challenges, showing the circumstances of students in learning to donors or organizations about how the education block in migrant area and how students are struggling to get some opportunities or to move forward his or her university education, via online or telling them face-to-face.
Therefore, considering the aforementioned points, I believe that it is the best way to advocate.
One more thing I would like to add is to make keep in touch with the authorities in Thailand because most students who displaced from their countries used to live in foreign country. The more we will have connection with them, the more we can overcome the issues.
Thank you so much,
Sincerely,
