In my experience, teaching a student can be a difficult thing if there is awkwardness or hesitation. These things are obstacles that can disrupt a teaching. To be able to teach a student properly, we need to loosen them up a bit. There are some effective way to do that like self-introduction, play game, and do group work.
Self-introduction is one of the effective ways to to that. When it is the first day of school, the students may feel a mix of excitement, nervousness, and anxiety. They may be excited to see new faces or nervous about new routine. When you tell them to introduce about themselves and their hobbies, they will feel less tense afterwards.
Telling them to play game also help them feel secure afterwards and giving them group work or group project also effective. The more they get to know one another, the more comfortable they are with one another, so is the teaching.
