Using the learning types in your teaching
Can you identify how you used the learning types to create a balanced learning experience for your students? How well did it work? Are there ways you could involve more learning types, or a better combination, in your teaching?
Well, the six types of learning quite cover up all the grounds I believe. However, make use of this six types of learning is quite challenging. Acquisition probably help the students to understand some of the concept and like it said in the video, the students doesn't have anything to do. Inquiry will be the harder part to do I believe because the students are unlikely to ask the questions if they don't understand. It maybe due to the self confidence they don't have or it can also be the peer pressure. The discussion part is easier but not all students will likely to participate in the discussion. Some, they just listen what other people discuss and some, they don't even care about the discussion. Some, they felt like they are inferior to other students and they didn't dare to discuss, and some, literally take the discussion as an insult. It doesn't happen all the time, but mostly, you will see the brighter students or the extroverted students will lead in the discussion and miss out some other students opinion even though they have a lot better ideas. Practices are very good as the students learn mostly through practices but one thing that annoy me is that some students never learn from their mistakes even though they have done a lot of practice. It can be due to they are very slow in learning but I have seen some students who aren't actually care about education which made me feel really annoyed. Collaboration also will go the same with the discussion I believe. Some will take part in it but some actually just follow and take things for granted for what other people have done. Production is the harder part because it needed creativity or understanding of the concept completely to come up with. Most of the time, due to insufficient amount of time that we have to teach the students, the students doesn't completely understand the concept so they would not come up with a very good idea for production. I think this maybe due to being very weak in other 5 learning types.
Overall, to make use of this 6 learning types efficiently, it took a lot of effort and patient. Getting to be able to use all of them is great but sometimes, I think we better set our goal in which depth we want them to learn and in this way, the students will have a better environment to be able to study at full capacity.
