Reflecting on a recent math session at Minmahaw School, I categorized my teaching into different learning types to create a balanced experience for my students.
Acquisition (Learning by hearing/reading): I started by asking a question to check the students' background knowledge. I showed several slides with short definitions of the topic and then showed a short video about the lesson.
Practice (Learning by doing): I used real tools (manipulatives) so that students could understand the concepts clearly. I provided class worksheets for extra practice and assigned homework through IXL or paper sheets.
Collaboration (Learning with others): I organized the students into groups and gave them real-life word problems, such as sharing items with friends or exploring probability using coins and cards. Sometimes, I write all the topics on the whiteboard and assign two topics to each group for discussion. After their group work, they have to explain their findings to the other groups."
