Theory in practice

This theory helps teachers understand that students’ learning and wellbeing are influenced by many factors beyond the classroom, especially in contexts of conflict and displacement. It shows that family life, community, culture, policies, and life experiences all play a role in shaping how students learn and feel.

For me, this theory helps me look beyond the classroom and try to understand my students’ backgrounds more deeply. I can communicate with families, be more sensitive to students’ experiences, and adapt my teaching to meet their needs.

By understanding these different system levels, I can better support my students not only academically, but also emotionally and socially.
