Teachers play a vital role physically and emotionally in creating safe spaces through education in these contexts, especially in contexts affected by conflict, displacement, inequality, or social tension. Their role goes far beyond delivering academic content; they help shape emotional security, social trust, and critical awareness. As teachers are the second parents in the school, they have a sense of responsibility to protect the students. Teachers are not just educators; they are protectors of dignity, builders of peace, and creators of hope. A classroom that feels safe can change the trajectory of a student’s life, especially when the outside world feels uncertain or unsafe.
I don't think there’s a single best way to advocate for safe schools in conflict-affected contexts because conflict contexts are complex, but the most effective advocacy usually combines community trust, evidence, and strategic pressure. Keeping school a safe learning space is not up to teachers, but also everyone in the community. By working together in the community, we could be able to ensure the safety of schools in conflict-affected areas.
