Theory in Practice

  • In what ways could the theory help teachers to understand how different system level factors affect their students’ learning and wellbeing in contexts of conflict and displacement?
  • How could this theory help you to help your own students

The theory helps teachers to understand the students well even outside of the class. This is really important, especially in contexts of conflict and displacement. Because, in general, we can assume that even the normal students have different backgrounds as well as pressure on their own level, no matter which age. Those may include factors such as their family's high expectation, lack of access to basic education, displacement experiences, etc.

The Bronfenbrenner Theory encourages the teachers to be aware of these and to look beyond classes. As a result, the teachers will know the students better and will be able to provide appropriate support for them.
