Reflection

In my classroom, I try to organise the environment in a way that feels calm, respectful, and structured. Because many students come from difficult backgrounds, I believe the classroom should feel different from the outside world, a place where they feel safe to learn and express themselves. I usually arrange the seating so students can see each other and easily interact during discussions. I also try to keep the classroom organised and predictable, because a stable routine can help students feel more secure.

To establish boundaries, I focus more on mutual respect and responsibility rather than strict punishment. At the beginning of the term, I discuss simple expectations with the students, such as listening to others, respecting different opinions, and supporting classmates who are struggling. When problems happen, I usually try to understand the reason behind the behaviour instead of reacting immediately with discipline.

I have noticed that when the classroom environment feels respectful and supportive, students participate more actively and are less afraid of making mistakes. However, if the environment becomes too strict or too loose, it can affect students’ confidence and behaviour.

One idea I have seen from others in this course that I find useful is creating regular opportunities for students to share their feelings or concerns about school and learning. In my classroom, this could be done through short reflection activities or anonymous notes from students about what is going well and what is difficult for them. This simple practice could help teachers understand students better and create a more supportive learning environment.
