This week helped me see my role as a Liberator who can provide dignity and hope to students. Using the VPLP framework, I now understand that if I don't listen to students who are Victims of conflict, the school can accidentally become a Perpetrator by ignoring their struggles. Ecological Systems Theory gives me a map to help them by building a strong Microsystem of trust in the classroom and connecting with families in the Mesosystem, I can support the "whole child" and not just their grades. These theories help me realize that students bring their entire life story into class, and it is my responsibility to make sure they feel safe enough to reach their dreams.
My question is,
"How can we stay motivated to be a "Liberator" when the Exosystem (like school rules or a lack of money) makes it very hard to help our students?"
