Space for listening to learners

Do you have activities or routines that you use regularly to create space for listening to learners?

In my view, good teaching means actively listen to the students understanding their needs and adjusting lessons to support them better. I usually see teachers start asking questions before they go to lesson to know students' knowledge about the topic.  In the end of the lesson, they ask the question to know what students learns from the lesson they have taught. This method is really helpful for the teacher to know if their teaching plan is effective and how to improve it.
