In the past, i had a classmate who was facing many problems at home.Because of this he was very quiet, had no close friends and usually he stayed by himself. One day, he was struggling with math and the teachers scolded him in front of the whole class. After being scolded at him, He responed rudely to the teacher.
Looking back now and connecting this experience, i realize that it is important to not to focus only on the behavior, but to be curious about the story behind it. His reaction may have influenced by the difficulties he was already facing at home and the emotion stress.
From this i learned that instead of judging the behaviour immediately, it is better to approach the student with empathy, talk with them calmly and try to understand what they are going through.
