Over to you

Do you think that offering counselling is part of a teacher’s role, or is it a specialist role?      I think counselling is more of a specialist role, because teachers are not trained to give full counselling. Teachers can listen and support, but deep counselling should be done by professionals.

Are there any risks involved in offering this support to learners?

Yes, there are risks if teachers try to counsel without training, such as giving wrong advice or missing serious problems.

Is this something that your school already provides or what further support or training would your school/learning centre need in order to be able to provide counselling support to learners?

Some schools, including Minmahaw School, already provide counselling. However, I think they need more training for teachers and better access to professional counsellors to give proper support. I think only one session is not enough. If they plan face‑to‑face counselling, it would be more effective.
