I think counselling is mainly a role for specialists, but teachers still play an important part in supporting students emotionally. Teachers can use skills like active listening to support learners, but serious issues should be handled by professionals.

Giving the wrong advice or not fully understanding a student’s situation should be avoided. It can also be emotionally challenging for teachers.

I was with the children, so I never actually used any counselling. We just had fun playing games, listening to stories, and listening to music.
