I think it is better to start the class with warm-up activities because they make students more active and reduce sleepiness.
I have noticed that most students feel stressed before exam time. So, I help my learners reduce their stress by letting them do some exercise. When they exercise, their brains release endorphins, which are chemicals that make people feel happy.
Another method I usually use is deep breathing because it helps calm the mind. Sometimes, I let them watch a movie, as it can relieve their feelings and reduce their stress.
I also use these strategies myself to relax and improve my focus.
