In my classroom, I use an activity called the “Crossing the River Game” to create a safe and supportive learning environment. Students are divided into two groups and stand in two lines with a space in the middle, which represents a river. Each group gets 10 pieces of paper to step on while crossing to the other side. One student acts as a “crocodile” in the middle and tries to grab the papers.

Students must work together to cross the river by stepping only on the papers. The person at the front places the papers, while the person at the back collects them and moves quickly. Before starting, students discuss and plan their strategy.

I usually use this activity during group work or when students need to relax. This activity helps students learn cooperation, communication, and problem-solving. They must work together, listen to each other, and support their teammates. It also builds trust and encourages students to help one another.

This activity also helps me manage the class because students are engaged and follow rules.
