This week helped me realize how important social and emotional learning (SEL) is in the classroom, because before I mostly thought teaching was just about delivering content, but now I see that students’ emotions, backgrounds, and experiences strongly affect how they learn, and every student comes with different challenges that influence their focus and behavior; I learned that listening to students and giving them chances to share their feelings builds trust and makes them feel valued, while creating a safe and calm environment is necessary for effective learning, especially for those who face stress or trauma; I also understood that teachers need to be flexible and adapt methods to meet students’ social and emotional needs, such as allowing reflection time or quiet spaces, and I found it inspiring that teachers around the world continue to support their students despite challenges, showing the importance of collaboration; overall, this week changed my perspective by reminding me that education is not only about academics but about supporting the whole child, and as a future teacher I will try to build a classroom where students feel safe, respected, and emotionally supported so they can learn better.
