please share your own reflections on the week, or overall across the course, and comment on the posts from others.

This week has helped me better understand the importance of social and emotional learning (SEL). By being able to learn this course, I realized that students do not come to school only to learn academic but also they bring their feelings, experiences, and challenges from their personal lives. I have known that these matters can strongly affect their ability to focus and participate in learning.

One key idea I learned is the importance of active listening to students. By giving them time and space to express their thoughts, feelings, hopes, and fears, I believe I can help build trust and stronger relationships among them. If they feel heard and respected, I think they will be more confident and willing to engage in learning.

Moreover, I found it important to create a safe and supportive classroom environment. Simple strategies, such as encouraging respectful communication and building positive routines, make a big difference. These approaches help students feel secure esp for those who have experienced stress or difficult situations.

Although teaching in challenging contexts may be difficult, I believe that being patient, understanding, and supportive can help students learn better.

Please post any general questions you have for the educators here, and ‘like’ any others that you would like to see answered. Then we can prioritise how we address them.

How can we support students who do not want to share their feelings?

How can we help shy students feel to participate?

How can teachers manage their own stress while supporting students emotionally?
