Create a personal profile in our course group page:

Introduce yourself to your peers and tell us something about yourself. During this course you will be asked to come back and edit your profile and add more information in small practical assignments.

This is how it works:
  1. Add a new entry to this course group page to create a profile. Type your name in the 'concept' field.
  2. Add some information about yourself in the description field. Let us know who  you are, what you like and what brought you here!
  3. If you like you can add a profile picture or a short videoclip.
  4. And don't forget to tell us what open science animal you are!
  5. If you want, you can add comments to your peers' profiles. Or say 'hello!'

Let's create a word cloud together!

Tell us your discipline and see how many different disciplines are represented in this course!

Jonathan O'Keeffe Ahern

Hello everyone,

I'm Jonathan O'Keeffe Ahern from Dublin, Ireland. I've just completed a PhD in Medicine focussed in gene therapy for rare skin diseases. I've just started as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UCD in the same area. I'm very much interested in building communication with patient stakeholders to bring about public and patient engagement with research.

According to the test, I am a Meerkat!

José R. Díaz

Hey there! I work at the National Institute of Health Carlos III (Spain), at the international projects office. My centre is part of the ORION network, and that's how I arrived here.

Part of the job is to promote collaborations between different stakeholders; and through the Open Science philosophy, we'd have better chances of engaging the people into a project.

Ah, and my Open Science animal is the Squirrel : )

K

Karim Mahmoud

Hello, although I have two science degrees, my focus has been on the research management and tech transfer side of research. My interest is in RRI concepts and in particular how Open Science approaches can help broaden the impact of public investment in research. I am interested in keeping up-to-date with the latest thinking in the area of Open Science as I train others on data and project management.

Katrien Quintelier

Hi, I have a background in veterinary medicine and bioinformatics. I'm a second year PhD student between a university in Belgium and a hospital in the Netherlands, working on automated quality control and analysis of flow cytometry data.  I hadn't heard of Open Science until recently and thought it would be useful and interesting to find out more.

I am an open science squirrel!

Lucy Wust

Hi, my name is Lucy. I am studying Tropical Disease Biology. I am particularly interested in vector control and discovering new ways of managing disease-carrying insects.

I am passionate about science communication, as I believe sharing knowledge can save lives and spark new ideas. I joined this course because I would love to learn how to effectively engage people about the important work going on all around. I love how the collaboration of different fields and people can open up so many new opportunities, for both researchers and the public, and can really change and challenge our own thinking.

My OpenScience animal is a meerkat.

Hi all. My Open Science animal is a Meerkat. When I am not being a meerkat, however, I am a third-year, undergraduate Psychology student studying at the University of Newcastle. Currently I am undertaking a placement year in a comparative neuroscience lab, with current project focuses being on both animal welfare assessment and also comparative models of Major Depressive Disorder.

I was drawn to this course as I believe Open Science to be a crucial aspect of the future for psychology and other sciences alike, and hence I would love adopt its practices from as early in my career in science as I can!
