Advanced Spanish: Language in context

Introduction

Languages in the 21st century are evolving faster than ever due to the increasing presence of digital communication in our day-to-day lives. In this free course, Una lengua en movimiento, which is taught in Spanish, you will listen to a Spanish linguist’s opinions on the matter, and explore ways in which language can be used in order to tell the same story on different media.

You will learn about regional variation using a Chilean song as an example, and consider arguments for and against the use of neutral Spanish in global communications. Finally, you will read an interview where a Cuban linguist explains why she does not believe Spanish is at risk of becoming fragmented after all.

This OpenLearn course is an adapted extract from the Open University course L314 A buen puerto: advanced Spanish [Tip: hold Ctrl and click a link to open it in a new tab. (Hide tip)] , which is taught in Spanish.
