Sustainable tourism in Myanmar
In this free course you will learn the key concepts needed to understand sustainable tourism and the hospitality sector. The learning is presented through the lens of a country that is relatively new to tourism, Myanmar. This enables the learner to understand the opportunities and constraints inherent in developing the sector to become more sustainable.
The course is authored by Myanmar academics for two audiences: Myanmar school leavers progressing to higher education who want to brush up their study skills, and others who are considering careers in the tourism sector and want to understand the opportunities better.
It has 6 topics, each topic requiring 3 hours of study, a total of 18 hours of study. Each topic is broken down into 6 sessions, so short bursts of learning that can be studied on a mobile phone.
The course is assessed by a short quiz at the end and a Statement of Participation is available for those successfully completing the quiz.
The Transformation by Innovation in Distance Education (TIDE) project is enhancing distance learning in Myanmar by building the capacity of Higher Education staff and students, enhancing programmes of study, and strengthening systems that support Higher Educational Institutions in Myanmar. TIDE is part of the UK-Aid-funded Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reform (SPHEIR) programme (www.spheir.org.uk). SPHEIR is managed on behalf of FCDO by a consortium led by the British Council that includes PwC and Universities UK International. The TIDE project will close in May 2021.
