Training A focuses on strengthening the internal foundations that support responsible scaling within citizen science. Before projects seek broader influence, replication, institutional partnerships, or expansion, they benefit from reflecting on whether the organisational, ethical, and participatory conditions needed to support these ambitions are in place.
Citizen science initiatives frequently emerge through strong local relationships, enthusiasm, and shared commitment (Shirk et al., 2012; Fraisl et al., 2022). However, many projects encounter practical challenges as they evolve, including questions of governance, coordination, capacity, sustainability, and project administration (Shirk et al., 2012; Wigboldus et al., 2016). Teams may find themselves balancing community expectations, limited resources, reporting responsibilities, and changing institutional environments, often without clear opportunities to step back and reflect on how future development should occur.
Training A responds to these realities by supporting practitioners to reflect on organisational readiness, governance, ethics, adaptability, and resilience before pursuing broader influence, partnerships, or expansion. The training introduces tools that help practitioners assess opportunities and limitations, anticipate trade-offs, and strengthen project coherence before seeking broader influence or growth.
