Work through this case study to explore how communication, information sharing and coordinated MDT support may change throughout different stages of MND.

Case study: Jenny Ridgeway, part 1

Purpose

This activity will help you consider what information needs to be shared, with whom, and at what stage of a person’s illness. It also encourages you to think about different methods of communication across the MDT.

Task

Read the case study about Jenny Ridgeway, a woman who has recently been diagnosed with MND:

Once you have read Jenny’s case, consider the following questions:

  • How is MND affecting Jenny at the moment?
  • Is there anything else you would want to ask her about now?
  • Who from the MDT should Jenny meet with now?
  • What would you want each professional to assess or support?
  • What information would you need to include in each referral?
  • What difficulties can you already anticipate Jenny may experience in the future?

As you work through the case study, think about:

  • what you would communicate with one member of the team, a small group of team members, or the whole team
  • why different information may need to be shared with different people
  • how and what you would communicate back to the person living with MND
  • which methods of communication you would use.
