Purpose

To gain an appreciation of the different messages and methods of communication dependent upon a patient's stage of MND. Who needs to know what and when?

Task

Please read this case study about Jenny Ridgeway, a woman recently diagnosed with MND. You can find the case study  here (Word format) (Word 2007 document14.2 KB) or here (PDF format) (PDF document10.7 KB)

After you have familiarised yourself with Jenny's case, please answer the following:

How is the MND affecting Jenny at the moment?

Is there anything else you would want to ask her about now?

Who from the MDT should Jenny meet with now?

What specifically do you want them to assess and provide support with? Document the information you need to pass on for each referral.

What difficulties can you already anticipate Jenny will experience in the future due to her illness?

Whilst thinking about these questions keep in mind -

What information you would communicate with 1 member of the team, 2/3 team members or all team and why?

How and what would you communicate back to the person living with MND.

What methods of communication you would use.

Once you have your answers see what the author of this case study thought  here (Word format) (Word 2007 document13.7 KB) or here (PDF format) (PDF document73.3 KB)
