When did man start to create work of art, and why…

The most impressive works of art appear in the Paleolithic and it consists of representations of animals painted or sculpt in the internal surfaces of the caves. They were executed to serve a magic rite, destined maybe to assure the success of the hunting.

The Paleolithic man didn’t establish a distinct clear reality between images and reality. Representing those animals meant that they would dominate the animals and hunt them. That is why the images, lost their power.  Once they started to the rite of killing the animals, the old work of art was no use to another hunt.

Besides painting caves, the Paleolithic man did also bone sculptures and engravings on stone mainly worked with flint instruments.
