The portrait was an important branch in the 4th century BC sculpture and continued to flourish in the Hellenistic era. Almost all of his achievements are known only by Roman copies. Among the few originals is a life-giving bronze head found in Delos from the 1st century BC.

Another aspect of Hellenistic sculpture that we cannot fail to mention is the small bronze sculptures produced for collectors. Besides the mythological subjects there is a whole gallery of figures that represented the daily life of the time: Beggars, peasants, jumping and elegant young people. The grotesque, the humoristic and the picturesque played the dominant role.

Of note is the complex play of concave and convex shapes, a striking contrast between the figure's compact silhouette and body mobility.
