Strategic Alignment Without Loss of Integrity

View

Projects may need to align partially with institutional agendas in order to access funding, partnerships, or policy processes (Hecker et al., 2018).

However, alignment should not lead to:

  • mission drift;

  • reduced community ownership;

  • extractive participation;

  • or weakened ethical commitments.

Before entering or revisiting partnerships, practitioners may find it helpful to reflect on:

  • which values feel non-negotiable;

  • how governance expectations are understood;

  • what ethical boundaries matter most;

  • and what healthy collaboration would look like.

The progression from information sharing to strategic long-term partnerships highlights that deeper alignment and shared purpose enable more impactful and sustained collaboration.
