OER Advocacy Goals

Hi everyone,

My first mini-goal for myself is to try and connect with other library colleagues at my institution who have a shared interest in OER. I'm very new to my position (2.5 months in), so I think it’s a good way to connect with colleagues in our huge system. Maybe just a quick email to say “Hey, I’m new to ______, I see you are involved with OER here at _____. Wondering if you would like to get together at some point (coffee? lunch?) to talk about OER and you role at ___.”

Next, I would like to connect with some partners on campus. A quick preliminary look shows me that we do have an Open Education Interest Group that meets once every two months where participants share and learn more about open education. Planning to sign up for that listserv (and..done! see that was a pretty easy goal) and to make time in my schedule to attend the next meeting.

These are really baby steps, but I think they make the most sense for me right now and will help me to overcome those feelings of loneliness that were mentioned in today's module. Looking ahead and planning for the future is a bit hard for me, as I’m on contract at my institution currently. But some ideas that I have for the future include assisting with planning activities for OER Week in March 2019 or maybe by creating a virtual exhibit to showcase faculty adoption and use of OER in the classroom (OER awards are allotted to individual classes here - so maybe highlighting those faculty members in some way).
