Why Open matters to me?

I selected the image below by Paul Stacy because I captures what I think is the most important part of Open to me: the vast spectrum of area impacts by open practices that make knowledge accessible to all. It includes open science, open data, open technologies, etc. Even within the OER it's not just about open textbooks. And for me, Open texts are the least interesting aspect of Open. There is so much more about open pedagogy and students as producers of open education that intrigues me.

What I want to learn more about: I want to learn more about how to adapt & remix resources and CC licensing. For example, for the image I chose, it's from Paul Stacy so I assume CC by Paul Stacy.  But I see he has used icons from the Noun Project and listed the CC licensing. I am not sure how to correctly attribute this work. It's these kinds of questions that limit my use of Open since I am not quite sure how to use.

Looking forward to participating in the course!

Hi Laura, thank you for sharing that graphic, I really like Paul's inclusion of the spectrum of openness. Open education is just one small part of much bigger things. To get you started on how remixing the licenses works, here is a YouTube video that we'll include in our licensing module.

Paul went with CC BY for his license while simultaneously attributing the noun project icons that he had used (in small font on the the lower right hand side). Because the noun project icons are CC BY, then CC BY is okay for Paul as well.

Thanks Jenni. The video helps a lot.

Since Paul has amalgamated other CC work, would the attribution be Paul Stacy CC BY 4.0 or should I include the other contributors?

If you're adapting it further (rather than using it as is), I would use the full credit that includes the creators of the images.

When I started OER in 2014, I had not known that it was so much more than a textbook. This is a great photo.
