Work Integrated Learning Modules

Over the past 18 months, I have had the opportunity to lead an open module development project funded by eCampus Ontario.  Through this project, four colleges in Ontario, Canada collaborated to create 31 online modules (each 0.5 - 1.5 hrs in length) to support student preparation for work-integrated learning experiences, such as co-op, internships, and course-based applied research.

An overview of the project and access to all of the playable and source files, as well as facilitator guides for each module, can be found at www.niagaracollege.ca/cae/wil.

We adopted and adapted other OERs extensively through this project.  I'll offer the example of our module on Navigating Conflict in the Workplace.

Early on in the Navigating Conflict module, we acknowledge that much of the content of the module was adapted from Professional Communications OER by the Olds College OER Development Team used under a CC-BY 4.0 international license.

The Professional Communications OER was such a rich resource and we were very grateful to have been able to adapt and extend this work for our purposes. 

That serves as one example, but for each module we sourced many OERs, including material from CU Open (Carleton University Open), numerous open licensed images, TED talks and other open videos, etc.
