About building community of practice

I'm very fresh to Canadian higher education sector and have been trying hard to fit in.

I find participating reading groups is a fantastic starting point for building a CoP.

Online communities and discussions are certainly helpful and full of wonderful resources that we can all learn from, but being able to connect/discuss in-person means so much more. I've learned so many valuable lessons from people in the reading group last semester and can't wait for the next one to start.

Hi Xinli, I would be in heaven if I had the opportunity to meet and discuss reading about my practice with colleagues right at the moment. I'm doing so much by distance it's pretty impossible. I love face-to-face interactions and conversations.

I still remember how much I struggled during my PhD days.

That's when I can see my supervisor almost everyday. He certainly has offered a lot of support and guidance for me.

I can't imagine doing it remotely, not able to talk to your supervisor and fellow candidates about your research.

Start with the online CoP and then bring back what you have learned to your own face to face CoP. Don't have one? Make one! You can do it!
