Open education is accessible!

Attachment

Hello everyone!

My name is Nicole and I am an instructor at Western University. Over the past year, I have been interested in learning more about OER because I have been mindful of accessible education for my students. I do not want to add any barriers to my learners and I think that OER is a great start to becoming more accessible. There are obviously other factors to consider to truly be accessible but I think that OER can play a big role!

Hi Nicole, I agree. The flexibility that editable files creates in terms of helping to ensure inclusive design (choice and accessibility features) can really make a difference. Disability offices are completely overburdened trying to create accessible versions of course resources after the course has already started. The more choice that all learners have about format and tools for easy-reading and viewing, the better off everyone is!
