Option A: If you’re new to the open community, create a discussion forum post (or Twitter or blog) about what you feel you have to contribute in terms of your practices, and what you hope to receive from the community. Include some advice, a link to a resource that you like, a story about your practice that you believe will have value for others with similar practice to yours.

Hi all,

Relatively new to this community, but have been fortunate enough to sit in on a couple of Lauren Anstey's presentations about OER. It was certainly enough to pique my interest!

Although it's now a 10 year old idea, I've always been quite fascinated by Jim Groom's concept of edupunk. That is, approaching (online) education with a punked out DIY attitude. Here's a Wikipedia page that discusses the idea further:

I'm curious to know more about the types of open tools and resources that can be pieced together to create online learning opportunities. To build on my appreciation for Jim Groom, here's a Digital Storytelling course he started up that uses Twitter, Soundcloud, Wordpress, and other platforms across the web: http://ds106.us/

I like the idea of learning outside of the traditional LMS, and curious to hear about the platforms that other folks use.

Hi Devan, also a big fan of Jim Groom and Alan Levine's (@cogdog) work in these areas. You'll love Module 8 (coming out in Google Doc soon), based on some nice work by JR Dingwall and Terry Greene. There's a lot going on outside the LMS. This course is specifically designed to support a spectrum of introductory-level participants, so a little reliant on Moodle for scaffolding and building. Great to have you here.

I teach developmental math and David Lippman has created a wonderful free and open space called MyOpenMath. Don't let the name deter you. It's an LMS that is math, but it really doesn't HAVE to be.

WhatsApp in my folk.

Hi all participants, 


I don’t observed any comment about WhatsApp as tool for CoPs, I understand WhatsApps isn’t an open for the world tool but it works for communities, or I think it works with my folk. What’s your experience whit this tool in open practices? In communities?
