Resource from #knowhow project

As I have been working to increase awareness of CC licencing for some time now I hope you don't mind Helen if I share a resource I used which may be of use to others here:

FACT

I have maintained a Flickr channel for a while and really like the way that licencing is supported. Unfortunately the same is not true of YouTube which only provides one non standard licence option. I think educators need to push for greater licensing options online. This is particularly important for the next generation as they are not just consumers but producers of digital content.

Absolutely Teresa. I'm fairly new to using Flickr but enjoy having the option to license images using CC selections. It's a bit of an extra step when posting images, but well worth the effort. I haven't worked with Instagram to notice if there's an option for that in this other, highly popular, image collection tool. I agree that YouTube doesn't make it easy to designate a video resource as CC licensed but wonder if those who remix and repost those mashup videos even realize the issues with copyright they are ignoring.

In my experience most people are totally oblivious.   I've informed people about the CC-BY option on YouTube to their surprise (they were more than willing to share) ... but think it's time they had other options, or shared other repositories w/ more options.
