Entering into the world of OER

Greetings to all!!!  My name is Shelley Tomey and I am a Professor of Early Childhood Inclusive Education at a Community College in Bridgeport, CT.  Along with a colleague, I have been developing an OER course, Child Development, to run as an online course in the Fall of 2018 semester.  The course, to date, is somewhat complete...I am fortunate to have a wonderful leader and mentor supporting me as this is all VERY very new to me.  With that said, the concept of OER is one I am very enthusiastic about.  My student population, very often, are first generation college students who have educational needs that include and are not limited to, being English Language Learners, coming from failing high schools with low graduation rates, and often most impacting, is the lack of financial resources when most of the financial aid funds they have available have been used in developmental level coursework leading to "for credit" courses like the one I am teaching.  To have access to a vast network of vetted, high quality resources would be a "game changer".  I am excited to take part in the conversations and learning opportunities!
