Reflection

1. I feel the NICE guidelines quite accurately reflect my experiences of working in an MDT, particularly with clients living with MND. Browsing the guidelines from other areas of practice that are not my specialty such as physio, speech, respiratory etc was helpful to put into perspective why and when certain interventions may be carried out with my MND clients as their MND progresses.

2. I feel the NICE guidelines capture the essential functions of an MDT quite well and give clear and easy to follow guidelines.

3. For me (as a Dietitian), the greatest challenges for the MDT approach when applied to MND is that I personally do not work within a comprehensive MDT, rather a team that employs mainly Dietitians. This means that chasing up MDT members outside of appointment times can sometimes be tedious and time consuming. However, this is easily overcome as many of my MND patients now have an ongoing email thread with all MDT members where we provide regular updates, questions and concerns to each other regularly as well as recurring meetings every other month to touch base.
