Reflection on NICE Guidlines

I am very aware of how the NICE guidelines impact our MDT approach within our team. For us locally it has been a long learning curve in successfully building a working MDT, and that learning continues to occur. My post, as specialist coordinator is very new, and I think that has now strengthened the MDT approach and the care the patients receive.

We provide both clinic and community appointments, but I will always try and do that initial assessment/appointment at their home. I find it is easier for the patient and their families, as a professional I get lots of additional information meeting someone at home.

Some of our MDT dip in and out of care; for example our palliative nurses will only be involved at the point of symptom control. But due to the specialist coordinator post it means referrals to the wider MDT can happen really quickly.

It sounds like a great set up and what a fantastic and very important role...
