MDT working

The NICE guidelines back up what we find in practice i.e. MND is multifaceted and individual with everchanging challenges that multi- (or is is inter-) disciplinary teamwork is vital to provide the timely (neither too late or too soon) individually tailored support. Excellent communication with professionals outside our immediate team is also essential such as specialist nurses, neurologist, orthotics, social services.  Familiarity with what the third sector can offer and local knowledge expands this multidisciplinary working further. As an example, a chair assessment regarding posture essentially by OT can be informed by physiotherapy, broadened by nursing, facilitated by speech and language, augmented by orthotics and underpinned by psychology, and enabled by the MNDa or Red Cross.
