Open Education means...

For me, open education means opportunities that are not restricted by societally developed privilege. I hope eventually our education will be written by the world’s people, and we will value all knowledge equally. In my region, educators laughed at me when I argued in my Master’s thesis defense that education is a human right, but society ensures it remains a privilege. While my philosophy is a huge change for the current traditional education perspective, and often change is slow, I hope to change the traditional world of education as much as I can while I’m here so no one is “left behind”.

I struggle with challenging bias of people developing resources, as they only wish to rely on resources they have been told are worthy of inclusion. This is something I hope to discuss and engage with others about during this course - how they have found success in changing the minds of non-believers of open education, OER, and diverse forms of learning.

I love this, Jackie! I happen to agree, education is a human right.
