Reflection - Dietitian from Australia

Some of my key takeaways from patients' perspectives on MDT teams;
  • Involve patients in all decisions, never persuade but rather provide the information so they can make an informed decision
  • As a community Dietitian, it's helpful to hear the perspective from the first video about issues with conflicting advice between hospital and community professionals and how confusing this would be. It's a good reminder to ensure good collaboration with the hospital Dietitian occurs when adjusting my patients PEG Regimes or formula in the community (as well as any other time as necessary).
  • Having access to support team in the home environment, in the comfort of their own chair and feeling safe and secure is important. On reflection I feel very privileged to work 100% in the community seeing my MND patients in their homes and support them and their families with what they need where they feel most comfortable (and that this is made possible through the NDIS Scheme, where access to services in-home is completely funded).
  • Having a main port of call is ideal for patients, where that person can then contact the relevant professional/s as needed for the patient.
