Education and Socioeconomic Gaps

Why Open? I have a lot of reasons. I am really into the idea of renewable assignments, giving the onus of education back to students by making them part of OER creation, collaborating with other experts globally to make well-rounded assignments that can have more country/culturally appropriate contexts, providing easily accessible materials to instructors that they can manipulate and use for their purposes, on and on. For the student side, however, I truly believe in making education accessible to all, and tearing down the barriers so many people face, particularly financial- and privilege-wise.

I first saw this comic a few years ago, and I reference it often. It has made a big impact on me in terms of how I view the core issues of education. I want to move towards a world where education is as accessible and free as air because when we make it attainable for everyone, we all benefit.
