Day 13 Post
Why Open Makes Sense to Me?
Originally open meant a book I could use and distribute without having to pay great expense for. Now open means materials that there are materials that we could adopt as a college and have helps that we can use and modify; perhaps using an online course homework system at a reasonable cost. Currently my school has been renting books to students to keep cost down and has not used online homework systems or e-books because of the cost to students. There is talk about going to e-books and more use of technology. This may start in the math field that I teach in. OERs such as OpenStax may help us achieve both quality technology and reasonable cost.
For goals, I plan to talk to the Vice President of Academic Affairs about presenting some information about OERs at the Fall 2018 Faculty In-service. I also want to share with her about the Open Education Campus Action Plan and see if we can get a College Action Team for this.
